Tuam Bypass and Gort-Tuam motorway to be officially opened tomorrow.

The new Tuam bypass and Gort-Tuam motorway will be officially opened tomorrow by Transport Minister Shane Ross.

The 550 million euro Gort-Tuam motorway is one of the region’s largest road projects, and has been completed ahead of schedule.

It’s now time for Government to provide the funding to continue the motorway from Tuam onto Claremorris – that’s according to the Claremorris Chamber of Commerce which is calling for funding for this project to be included in the Government’s forthcoming capital spending plan.

With an extra 4 billion euro being provided for capital spending, Claremorris Chamber says funding should not be a problem, so the CPOs for the preferred route from Tuam to Claremorris should be issued right away, and one short stretch from there to the N5 would link up Castlebar and Westport to the motorway network.
