It’s been confirmed that a large screen will be installed on Main Street in Castlebar next Sunday, for the All-Ireland football final between Mayo and Dublin.
Over the weekend, it looked as though plans for a large screen in the county town had fallen through.
Spencer Street Traders had initially sought, and received, permission from Castlebar Councillors to install a large screen at The Mall, but they later said there were too many logistics involved and they would not be going ahead with the plan.
Community group Love Castlebar then offered to take over the event, and secured funding from a number of local companies yesterday.
They’ve now confirmed that an 8-metre wide screen will be installed near Vaughan Shoes on Main Street, and large numbers of Mayo supporters, who cannot get tickets for Croke Park, are expected to make their way to the county town to join in the atmosphere for the Big Match.
