As the ticket frenzy continues ahead of Mayo’s trip to Croke Park next Sunday, it appears plans for a big screen in Castlebar for the All-Ireland senior football final are back on.
Over the weekend, a representative of the Spencer Street traders told Midwest News that – despite having received permission from Castlebar Councillors last week to install a large screen at the Mall – there were too many logistics involved and they would not be going ahead with the plan.
However, the Western People reports this morning that plans for a big screen in the county town are back on.
Community group Love Castlebar has offered to take over the event, and approached a number of local companies for financial assistance which will be used to hire stewards, as well as using local volunteers.
It’s also emerged that the Mall may not be the location for the big screen - due to weather considerations.
Further details will be confirmed later in the week.
