Progress being made on upgrading N59 Galway to Clifden Road

Progress is being made on upgrading the N59 Galway to Clifden Road.

Galway West TD Eamon O'Cuiv says ground investigation works on the Bunakill to Maam Cross road are due to begin by the start of October following approval of the method statements by the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht.

He says progress on upgrading the Galway-Clifden road has been slow in recent years, but he's now been informed by Galway Council Council that ground investigation works on the stretch of road between Bunakill and Maam Cross will begin in October.

The Fianna Fail TD has welcomed the progress, but says we need to see the larger N59 upgrade undertaken.

He says the temporary resurfacing of the road from Oughterard to Bunakill in recent weeks has led to a huge improvement in the condition of the route, but it is only a tempoary stop-gap and a more substantial upgrade must be undertaken without delay.
