Ahead of the All-Ireland senior football final on Sunday week, Mayo fans who cannot get tickets for Croke Park may be able to watch the match live on a big screen at The Mall.
At the monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District yesterday, Councillors agreed to a request from Spencer Street Traders for permission to erect a large screen on the Mall for the Mayo V Dublin final on Sunday 17th September.
The traders have been in contact with a company who install large screens for such events, and councillors yesterday backed the proposal, subject to conditions.
A spokesman for the Spencer St traders has confirmed to Midwest News that they’re hoping to go ahead with installing a big screen, but a number of details have yet to be confirmed, and they still need to liaise with other groups in relation to their plans.
He added it will be later this evening before a final decision is made.
A similar large screen was installed in Eyre Square in Galway last weekend where thousands of people watched Galway overcome Waterford in the All-Ireland hurling final.
