Minister Ring clarifies options for those in receipt of Fuel Allowance

People receiving the fuel allowance from the Department of Social Protection are being advised that they now have the option of receiving the payment in two lump sums during the Winter, or they can continue to receive the weekly payment.
The annual value of the Fuel Allowance is 585 euro, and the Department has announced that the Fuel Allowance can be claimed in two lump sums in October and January for those wishing to purchase fuel in bulk.
However, the Mayo-based Minister for Rural & Community Development Michael Ring says it’s not compulsory, and people can still receive their fuel allowance payment weekly if they prefer.
