NUI Galway has appointed a new President.
Professor Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh has been appointed the 13th president of the university, and will take over at the helm next January when Dr Jim Browne’s 10-year term of office comes to a close.
The incoming president is a native of Newcastle in Galway city and a graduate of NUIG.
He served as principal and dean of UCD College of Business for the last 6 years, leading its schools in Dublin and its overseas programmes in Hong Kong, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
Outgoing President Dr Jim Browne said his successor has a wealth of leadership experience and a proven track record in developing the international reach of an Irish university.
