The village of Easkey in Co Sligo extended a Cead Mile Failte today to US Democratic Congressman Brendan Boyle and family members, who visited their ancestral home in the area.
Congressman Boyle spoke fondly of his grandparents, who lived near him in Philadelphia when he was growing up, and spoke often of their upbringing in Co Sligo.
The Congressman, his brother Kevin who’s a State representative for the Philadelphia district and their father arrived at Easkey Community Centre shortly after 10am this morning where they were welcomed by the local community and met with relatives in the area.
During their stay, they paid a visit to Easkey graveyard, where Congressman Boyle’s great-grandparents are buried, as well as attending a tree-planting ceremony and a plaque was unveiled at the Walsh ancestral home at Cooga near Easkey.
Speaking with Midwest Radio, the Congressman spoke of this disappointment at the attitude of the current administration in the White House towards the tens of thousands of undocumented Irish in the US.
