Full Capacity Protocol in Operation today at GUH Emergency dept.

The Emergency Department at University Hospital Galway is extremely busy today with thirty-three patients awaiting admission to the hospital.
Management at the hospital is advising people who are attending the Emergency Department at the hospital to expect delays and has apologised to patients and their families for the delays.
In a statement from the  Setanta Hospital group, they say the Full Capacity Protocol has been implemented and all efforts continue to be made to identify patients who are appropriate for discharge.
They are urging the public not to attend the Emergency Department only in the case of real emergencies but rather  you’re advised to  contact your GP or GP Out-of-Hours service in the first instance.
