Up to 300 patients who have qualified for Home Care Package in Co Galway not receiving it at present

Up to 300 patients who have qualified for a Home Care Package in county Galway are not receiving it at present, due to financial constraints within the HSE West.

Galway east deputy Sean Canney says the provision of homecare packages for those most in need across the county is simply not working and hundreds of patients and their families are suffering as a result.

While many patients are officially being approved for homecare hours, in practice they receive nothing.

Last week, Castlebar councillor Michael Kilcoyne warned families in Mayo that if they are being promised a home care package for a loved one being discharged from the hospital, the reality in this county at present is that while the patient may qualify for the service, they are not getting any, as there are no hours available.

Deputy Canney says he doesn’t know what is happening within the HSE in relation to this issue and has been telling Midwest News that families are completely in disarray.
