Increased Garda Presence on the Region's roads this Bank Holiday Weekend

There will be an increased garda presence on roads across the region this Bank Holiday weekend.

The Gardai say they want everyone to enjoy the festivities in safety and are keen to ensure anyone using a vehicle is aware of the Bank Holiday Enforcement Campaign.

Motorists are advised that inappropriate speed is the single greatest contributory factor to road deaths and serious injuries.

Drivers are urged to be vigilant and to take all necessary steps to ensure their safety and the safety of other road users.

Cyclists and Pedestrians are also asked to wear appropriate High Viz. clothing and to be mindful for their safety at all times.

Inspector Dermot Butler of the Mayo Traffic division told Midwest News today that the GardaĆ will be patrolling the road network throughout the Western Region (Galway, Clare, Mayo and Roscommon/Longford) over this Bank Holiday Weekend period in both marked and unmarked vehicles.
