Children with Type 1 Diabetes From the West Forced to travel to Limerick for Treatment

Children with Type I diabetes across Mayo, Roscommon and Galway are being forced to travel to Limerick for treatment while a paediatric diabetes consultant post remains unfilled at Galway University Hospital for the past two years- that’s according to Fianna Fáil deputy for Roscommon/Galway Eugene Murphy.

Deputy Murphy has called on the Minister for Health to fill the paediatric diabetes consultant post at Galway University Hospital as a matter of urgency .

Children under the age of 12 with Type I diabetes from western counties must now attend Limerick University Hospital for Treatment.

He told Midwest News today that Saolta Hospital Group say the post at GUH has been readvertised after the last successful candidate failed to take up the position and interviews will take place shortly and it's hoped the position can be filled as soon as possible.
