Cong is a hive of activity again today as the final works are being completed on a new “spirit of place” installation - being erected in the village.
Tomorrow afternoon the art installation will be unveiled at 4pm and all are welcome.
Its entitled, “About Fishers of Men” and has been designed and is being put together by 30 architect students from the Catholic University Washington under the stewardship of Travis Price, Professor of Architecture, and 5 mosaic artists.
Mayo county council work in partnership with Professor Travis and his teams and on this occasion Galway county council is also on board.
The Spirit of Place Programme, has resulted in more than a half a dozen installations around county Mayo since 2002.
The design process of the educational programme takes place over the period of a college semester, while the construction phase takes place in a 9 day period on location.
The Cong installation incorporates the Gospel of Mathew in conjunction with the mysterious sun boat God from Celtic History, Mainiaman Mac Lir.
Tomorrow’s unveiling will be attended by the CEOs of both Mayo and Galway county council and the cathaoirligh of both authorities.
