Fresh searches for next five days off Blackrock Island as investigation into crash involving Rescue 116 continues
Fresh searches are due to take place this weekend and into next week off Blackrock Island in North Mayo, as the investigation into the crash involving Rescue 116 last March continues.
Garda divers will travel to the scene tomorrow to conduct more surveys of the area when the Coast Guard helicopter crashed with the loss of all four crew members.
The bodies of two crewmen, Paul Ormsby and Ciaran Smith, have still not been found.
The divers will be assisted by the Irish Lights vessel the Granuaile, which will travel to Blacksod Bay this evening.
Local Garda Superintendent Tony Healy told Midwest News the searches are the latest stage in the ongoing investigation. He said a trawl of the seabed will take place over the next number of days.
Small items of debris are still being gathered along the shoreline and are being processed by Belmullet Gardai.
