After 6 years as Taoiseach and 15 Years as leader of Fine Gael Enda Kenny will step down as the party leader from midnight tonight.
He will remain on as Taoiseach until a new leader of the party is elected next month.
The Fine Parliamentary meeting scheduled for 5.30 this evening was brought forward this afternoon by Enda Kenny himself to 4.30pm.
The meeting lasted just ten minutes.
Immediately afterwards his constituency colleague Minister Michael Ring told Midwest News that Enda Kenny had made an honourable decision and insisted he will be remembered kindly by history for his achievements as the country’s leader.
