Govt needs to improve infrastructure in areas that have suffered population decline, says Mayo Senator
The Government needs to take action to improve infrastructure in areas that have suffered population decline – that’s according to Mayo-based Fine Gael Senator Michelle Mulherin.
Recent census figures showed that Mayo was one of only two counties that suffered population decline over the past five years – along with Donegal.
Senator Mulherin has called for the draft National Planning Framework to be amended, and for the mid-term review of the Government's Capital Investment Plan to reflect the need for more infrastructural investment in Mayo – which she fears is falling behind other parts of the country.
The Capital Investment Plan is due to run until 2021, and the Mayo senator told Midwest News that we need accelerated capital investment in broadband, roads and rail, as well as more support for Ireland West Airport Knock…..
