Three months after the temporary closure of Castlerea Fire Station, due to staffing levels, a Roscommon TD says negotiations are at a delicate stage.
The fire station closed in late January as staff numbers fell below critical levels.
Roscommon Fire Service explained at the time that the closure was temporary, and covers would be provided from fire services in nearby towns, including Ballyhaunis, Ballaghadereen and Elphin.
A number of public meetings have been held in Castlerea, where local residents have outlined their concerns about the closure of the local fire station.
Roscommon Fianna Fail TD Eugene Murphy says he has entered into a second round of talks with the firemen in Castlerea and has also met with the CEO of Roscommon County Council to discuss the situation.
