Specialist army climbing team will arrive today to carry out searches of Blackrock Island for missing crew of Rescue 116

A specialist army climbing team will arrive today to help carry out searches for the two missing crewmen of Rescue 116 – Paul Ormsby and Ciaran Smyth.

The team will carry out detailed searches on Blackrock Island. The team of 10 will be flown out to the island by the air corps today, along with Garda scene of crime investigators and will stay overnight to carry out extensive searches. This is in an effort to establish if the two men were thrown from the rear of the helicopter when it struck the island on March 14th.

The Garda underwater unit is also due to return to carry out searches in and around the island once again.
