Enda Kenny becomes Fine Gael's longest serving head of government today

2,234 days later Enda Kenny is still the Taoiseach of the country making him Fine Gael's longest serving head of government.

He's now served one day more than John A. Costello who was leader in the 1950s.

Pressure has been mounting on Enda Kenny to step down as leader, with some commentators suggesting he wanted to secure this title before leaving.

Yesterday Fine Gael TD Noel Rock said the UK elections process is the perfect time for a fresh Fine Gael leader to be elected.
