The Department of Social Protection says that, contrary to recent reports, the selection process for the position of Branch Manager in Swinford is not yet complete.
On Midwest News yesterday morning, Mayo Fianna Fail TD Dara Calleary said a new agent manager has been appointed by the Department in Swinford, and the new appointee will open a new facility in the town for the delivery of Department of Social Protection services.
However, in a statement this morning, the Department says the selection process is not yet complete for the position of branch manager in Swinford.
While a recommended candidate has been submitted for approval to the Minister, the candidate must satisfy a number of conditions on the standard of the premises before an appointment can be formally recommended.
The statement concludes that representations from both Minister Michael Ring and Senator Michelle Mulherin have helped to ensure that the office has been retained, and an interim service provided.
