Castlerea businessman takes over Basta plant in Tubbercurry

A Castlerea man and his business partner have purchased the Basta plant in Tubbercurry, Co Sligo.

Basta was established in Tubbercurry some 60 years ago by the Gallagher family, and subsequently bought out 27 years ago by former CEO Kevin Norton who passed away earlier this year.

Castlerea-based businessman John Murphy and his colleague Dermot Foster have now purchased the Basta plant, which employs 37 people in Tubbercurry.

Basta is one of Ireland’s leading brands in ironmongery, and makes handles, lock and hinges for doors and windows, supplying builders merchants, hardware and DIY stores in Ireland and the UK.

Speaking with Midwest News, new owner John Murphy said they hope to concentrate in growing sales of the Basta products in Ireland and in the UK, and will also look at developing new products.

Mr Murphy has thanked staff and customers for their assistance during the transition.
