Health Minister confirms funding to staff the Hospice unit planned for Roscommon

The Mayo / Roscommon Hospice Foundation has welcomed confirmation of funding from the Health Minister Simon Harris for the staffing of an 8-bed Hospice Unit in Roscommon.

The hospice is currently planning to build new units in both Castlebar and Roscommon.

The Mayo Hospice Unit will go out to tender this Summer, and it’s hoped to cut the sod on the site in September, and have the unit open by mid-2019.

Work will then commence on building the 8-bed hospice unit in the grounds of Roscommon University Hospital, which will cost over 6 million euro, and is expected to be completed in 2021.

This week, the Mayo / Roscommon Hospice Foundation finally received an official letter of confirmation from Minister Simon Harris to provide the funding to staff the new unit in Roscommon.

The development has been welcomed by CEO of the foundation Cynthia Clampett who retires from her post later this month…
