Mascot Car Stolen from Castlebar Street on St Patrick's Night

A distinctive car, decked out in the red and yellow of Castlebar Mitchels, was stolen from the Station road in Castlebar on Friday evening last, St Patrick’s Day, and was found burnt out on Abbey Street in Ballinrobe in the early hours of Saturday morning .

The much loved vehicle, a Citroen 2CV, owned by Edward Conway Motors, sponsors of Castlebar Mitchels Ladies football team, was to have taken part in the Castlebar Saint Patrick’s Day parade, that was postponed due to inclement weather.

The vehicle will now not be taking part in next Sunday’s rescheduled Parade in the county town.

It had been parked outside a private house close to John Hanley’s Shop, on Station road.

Anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious is asked to contact Castlebar Garda Station on 094 9022222.

Padraig Conway told Midwest News today that he is quite shocked and upset by the incident. He explained that the mascot car had been used in the St Patrick's Day Parade for five years and will take alot of time to replace.
