The Air Corps has managed to land a team from the Air Accident Investigation Unit on Blackrock Island today as the search continues for the three missing crew members of Rescue 116.
This is a significant development as the signals from the black box of Rescue 116 were detected there yesterday.
However weather conditions hampered any potential diving in the area today. Declan Geoghan of the Irish Coastguard says the next window for diving or use of underwater robots is early Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The Grainne Uaile is due to arrive in North Mayo at around 5am tomorrow morning. The ship which is operated by the Commissioner of Irish Lights is equipped with the machinery to wench a large weight from the sea if necessary.
