Mayo native addresses Oireachtas Committee on difficulties facing returning emigrants

Mayo native Ciaran Staunton, Chairman of the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform, has today  addressed the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs in relation to the issue facing Irish emigrants returning to rural Ireland.

With the economy now improving in some parts of Ireland, and the Government here actively encouraging people to consider returning to this country, Mr Staunton says the sad reality is that returning Irish citizens are being penalised because they had to go abroad to earn a living.

Some of the issues he’s raised include difficulties with driving licences and car insurance, bank loans, farm grants, and continuing education.
