The first of 80 Syrian refugees will arrive in Ballaghaderreen in the first week of March.
That was confirmed to local TDs and Senators who attended a briefing this afternoon in Leinster House with Minister of State at the Department of Justice David Stanton.
Minister Stanton also confirmed that all the necessary supports will be put in place when the refugees arrive in Ballaghaderreen, as regards health, education etc.
Local Fine Gael Senator John O'Mahony told Midwest News that officials at the Department of Justice also confirmed that they will meet with the various groups in the town who have an interest in the project in the coming weeks.
Funding will also be available to some of the local community groups who are helping to facilitate the project.
