Ballaghaderreen Town team to Meet Dept Over Resources in Place for Syrian Refugees

A meeting of the Ballaghaderreen Town Team Committee took place yesterday to discuss the governmen’s plans to open an Emergency Orientation and Reception Centre in the Abbeyfield Hotel in the town for Syrian refugees.


Martin Lydon, Acting Director of Services with Roscommon County Council and Martina Earley, CEO of Roscommon LEADER Partnership addressed the meeting on what needs to be done to prepare for the arrival of the refugees

Micheal Frain Chairperson of Ballaghaderren Town Team told Midwest News this morning that "during discussions, committee members were keen to emphasise that the community in Ballaghaderreen will make every effort to ensure the refugees feel welcome”. 

He said a number of representatives from the Ballaghaderreen Town Team are to meet with officials from the Department of Justice to seek clarification on the plans and additional resources which will be put in place to support the development.
