Confirmation that there is capacity for up to 200 people at the Abbeyfield Hotel in Ballaghadreeen to accommodate refugees
A senior government official has confirmed to Roscommon County council that there is capacity for up to 200 people at the Abbeyfield Hotel in Ballaghadreeen to accommodate refugees.
Concerns have been raised about a lack of consultation over plans to re-locate 80 refugees to a rural town in West Roscommon.
The Justice Department has decided to house the group - mostly from Syria and including a large number of young children under 12 years - in the restored Abbeyfield Hotel in Ballaghadereen.
They're due to stay for the next two years but the Local Authority - which only found out about the move yesterday - has been meeting for several hours today to discuss the situation.
The meeting concluded shortly after 2pm on Friday and it’s confirmed that 80 refugees are to arrive in Ballaghaderreen next month with a further 80 expected in the second tranche in 2 months time.
