Councillors give green light for new 8-unit social housing development in Knockmore

Councillors in the Ballina Municipal District have given the green light for a new 8-unit social housing development in the village of Knockmore.

Councillors approved the part 8 planning required at yesterday’s monthly meeting of the authority.

The social housing project, costing 1.52 million euro, was announced last January, and can now go out to tender.

Local FG Councillor Neil Cruise says this will be provide a welcome cash injection into the village of Knockmore, as well as providing additional social housing for families on the  waiting list.

It’s hoped the 8 new units could be ready for occupation within 2 years.

Also, an additional 4 housing units are to get underway in Foxford – a further extension to the St Vincent de Paul housing development.

Councillor Cruise says the tenders are back and it’s hoped construction will start by early next Summer.
