West Mayo councillors reject 425,000 proposed discretionary fund for 2017

Councillors in the West Mayo Municipal District have rejected the 425,000 euro proposed discretionary fund for 2017 offered by Mayo County Council management at a budget meeting of the authority earlier this week.
The discretionary funding for the district, known as the GMA, is the only section of the council’s overall budget spend that councillors have any real control over.
Council management is proposing that a 1.9 million euro GMA fund for the county for 2017 be divided between the four Municipal Districts.
But West Mayo Councillors refused in Monday to approve a sum of 425,000 euro for their district, demanding that the figure for each Municipal District should be one million euro.
Cathaoirleach of West Mayo, Fianna Fail Councillor Brendan Mulroy, said councillors in the West Mayo district are insisting on one million euro per municipal area.
