Members of the N59 action group will protest this afternoon at 2pm in Connemara when the Taoiseach is due to visit the new 4.9 million euro Centre at Pearce’ s Cottage.
An Bord Pleanala refused permission in May for the long-awaited upgrade to the N59 between Maam Cross and Clifden due to environmental concerns.
Seosamh O’Cuaig is spokesperson for the N59 Action group, which led a ‘go-slow’ procession led by heavy goods vehicles earlier this month, as part of an ongoing campaign to provide an adequate road to serve a busy tourist and commercial route.
He told Midwest News today that the action group have planned a walk from Oughterard to Maam Cross this Saturday morning to further highlight their campaign.
