Taoiseach says ASTI dispute unfair on exam students

The Taoiseach has insisted the pay dispute with teachers is entirely of their own making - and is not the Government's fault.

Enda Kenny says the dispute over supervision and substitution was created entirely because the ASTI pulled out of national pay deals.

Today is the second of seven strike days being mounted by the ASTI over pay inequality in the profession.

In the Dáil the Taoiseach says the dispute is having an unfair effect on students sitting state exams:
