Funerals take place of Irishtown couple Tom & Kitty Fitzgerald

The funerals have taken place in Irishtown of local couple Tom & Kitty Fitzgerald whose bodies were found at the family home at Knockadoon last Tuesday afternoon.
Garda investigations are continuing into the deaths of 75-year old Tom Fitzgerald and his wife Kitty, who was 72, while their son Paul was discovered with head injuries at the scene and is currently in a critical but stable condition at the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
Post-mortem examinations were carried out over the weekend on the bodies of the couple, with Gardai stating that they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the deaths.
While not confirmed, it’s understood Gardai are treating the incident as a murder / suicide, and they’re continuing to appeal to anyone in the area with information to come forward.
Tom & Kitty Fitzgerald were laid to rest following Funeral Mass at the Church of the Holy Family & St Oliver in Irishtown.
The Parish Priest of Knockadoon Fr Martin O’Connor was the chief celebrant of the funeral Mass, and spoke about the tragic nature of their deaths, but said their families and friends must not forget their special memories of the couple….
