Sligo/Leitrim TD calls for land drainage scheme to be put in place

A Sligo/Leitrim TD has called for a land regulation and drainage scheme to be put in place.
Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny says it is over 30 years since such a scheme was available to farmers and if re-introduced it could help alleviate a number of problems – like the fodder crisis and flooding.
Deputy Kenny raised the matter in the Dail this week and asked Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to consider putting such a scheme in place.
Minister Creed told Deputy Kenny that EU Regulations could make such a scheme difficult to put in place.
