The Northgate Business centre is to close its Castlebar facility from December 2^nd.

That’s according to Independent Councillor Michael Kilcoyne who says the six people employed will all lose their jobs.

Northgate, provides a neonatal hearing-screening service for the HSE as well as a computer file management system for hospitals.

Cllr. Kilcoyne said that three years ago there was huge fanfare that there was going to be 150 jobs created by 2016 in Castlebar with the opening of this facility.

However, the 150 jobs never materialised and the councillor says the figure only ever reached half a dozen employees,

Councillor Kilcoyne has been expressing his disappointment and shock with the announcement of this closure to Midwest News this morning.
