€1.5m allocted to North West Fisheries Local Action Group

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed T.D., that €1.5m will be allocated to the North West Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) as part of a nationwide €12m package. The €12m package represents an eight fold increase on the previous FLAG scheme.
The North West FLAG which operates along the Mayo and Sligo coastlines aims to set out the priorities for development and support in the area and works to nurture and develop fishing communities here in County Mayo.
The Taoiseach said he welcomes the announcement of €1.5m for the Northwest FLAG. The aim of the FLAG scheme is to support job creation and promote innovation in coastal communities in Mayo, as well as enhancing environmental assets and promoting maritime cultural heritage. Mr Kenny said job creation and rural development are key priorities for this government and he is confident this funding will help create many opportunities for coastal communities throughout the county."
