Funding of over 317,000 euro is being allocated to Mayo County Council to bring 26 vacant housing units across the county back into action.
There are currently thousands of houses vacant across the country, and funding is provided under two schemes to local authorities to refurbish vacant social housing stock.
The Voids programme provides up to 30,000 euro per unit, while the Derelicts programme introduced this year provides additional support to local authorities in remediating more seriously derelict social houses.
Under these schemes, 317,309 euro has been allocated to Mayo County Council to bring 26 housing units across the county back into use.
Mayo-based Junior Minister Michael Ring says this is part of the Government’s plan to tackle social housing waiting lists….
