Talks aimed at averting tomorrow's ASTI strike get underway later

Last ditch talks aimed at averting tomorrow's ASTI teachers' strike get underway later.
The secondary teachers union is planning seven strike days in all between now and December, while next month, ASTI members plan to withdraw from supervision and substitution duties.
The Education Minister says there's 'no indication' tomorrow's strike action at secondary schools around the country won't go ahead.
Hundreds of schools across the country will be affected when ASTI members down tools in the first day of their industrial action campaign.
While talks are scheduled to take place later, officials from the union and the department of education aren't expected to make enough progress to call off tomorrow’s action.
Meanwhile, efforts will continue today to halt the industrial action campaign being taken by two Garda unions.
The AGSI is due to meet with officials from the Department of Justice, ahead of a work-to-rule on Friday.
But it's reported today that the government is preparing a new proposal, within the parameters of the Lansdowne Road pay deal, and it could be put to the Garda Representative Association this week.
