A new survey shows that loneliness is the biggest fear people face in growing older.
Farming organisation Macra na Feirme says safety and security - and a lack of access to health services are also concerns.
It found that the fear of isolation is greater in urban areas than for those living in rural areas.
Macra has launched its 'Know your Neighbour' campaign to encourage people to visit their more vulnerable neighbours this winter.
