Householders urged to check their smoke alarms during National Fire Safety Week
- Details

This week marks National Fire Safety Week, and the Mayo Fire Service is urging householders to make sure they have smoke alarms fitted in their homes, and that they’re in good working order.
Most people who die in house fires die from smoke inhalation rather than from burns, and it can take only three minutes to die from inhaling smoke.
“Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives” is the theme of National Fire Safety Week.
Mike Dalton, Assistant Chief Fire Officer for Mayo, says people should take time this week to check their smoke alarms.
