A Circuit Criminal Court case against two construction companies, who have charges brought against them following a fatal workplace accident over three years ago at the Corrib Gas tunnel project in north Mayo, has been back until January for mention.
Proceedings are being taken against BAM Civil Ltd. and Wayss and Freytag, Ingenieurbau AG following an investigation by the Health and Safety Authority into an accident in which German-born hydraulic technician Lars Wagner died.
26-year old Mr. Wagner was killed while working on the 4.8 km tunnel under Sruwaddacon Estuary on September 8, 2013. The tunnel was under construction at the time.
Both companies, which were under contract to carry out the tunnel construction project, are charged with several breaches of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
At a sitting of the Circuit Criminal Court in Castlebar yesterday, counsel for the State Patrick Reynolds applied to have the case put back to January for mention.
Mr Reynolds told Judge MacCabe there is "no guarantee" that a hearing date for the case can be found during the January/February sessions.
