6,500 people waiting for first appointment with consultant at Mayo University Hospital
- Details

The HSE has confirmed that there are currently six and a half thousand people waiting for a first appointment with a consultant or specialist at Mayo University Hospital.
1300 of these are waiting up to 2 years, and almost 200 are waiting up to 3 years for a first appointment.
The figures were provided following a question from Castlebar Independent Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, a member of the HSE West forum.
Councillor Kilcoyne says it’s unacceptable that waiting lists are growing, despite promises from successive Governments to tackle the issue.
