Former Govt Minister Bobby Molloy to be laid to rest in Galway today

Former Government Minister and Galway West TD Bobby Molloy will be laid to rest in Galway this afternoon.

Tributes have been pouring in since Mr Molloy of Rockbarton Road, Salthill, passed away on Sunday, aged 80.

Figures from across the political world will pay their respects at his Funeral Mass in Galway Cathedral today at 12noon, followed by burial at Bohermore Cemetery.

Mr Molloy was one of Galway’s longest serving politicians, with a political career spanning almost 40 years.

He was first elected to the Dáil as a Fianna Fáil TD for Galway West in 1965.

Mr Molloy served as a TD for the Progressive Democrats from the party’s formation in 1986 until he retired from politics in 2002.

Galway City Council held a special meeting in his honour yesterday, when a book of condolence was signed by the Mayor and council members.

Mr Molloy had served as Mayor of Galway City from July 1968 to June 1969.

He’s  survived by his wife Phyllis, daughters Sinéad and Sorcha, sons Daragh and Donncha, and a large circle of family and friends.
