EU regulations on State aid for regional airports being amended, which could be good news for IWAK says local Councillor

There may be some good news on the way for Ireland West Airport Knock, as EU regulations dictating the amount of money Governments can provide for regional airports are being amended.

That’s according to Mayo Sinn Fein Councillor Gerry Murray.

Councillor Murray, who’s a member of the European Committee of the Regions, says he has been informed by EU officials that draft guidelines have been agreed, which would exempt airports with less than 3 million passengers from the State Aid regulations.

While the new guidelines would have to be adopted at EU level, the Sinn Fein Councillor believes this will happen, and says the Irish Government will then be free to provide the funding the Mayo airport needs to grow and develop.
