A test excavation is to take place at the site of a former mother and baby home in Tuam, Co Galway today.
It has been arranged by the Mother and Baby Homes Commission of Investigation at the site of the 'Children's Burial Ground-Memorial Garden'.
The works are taking place in corporation with the Gardai.
The Mother and Baby Homes Commission of Investigation says a test excavation will take place at the site of the Children's Burial Ground/Memorial Garden in Tuam, Co. Galway.
A sample of the site will be excavated by a team of specialist Archaeologists lead by a Forensic Archaeologist.
The purpose of the excavation is to resolve a number of queries that the Commission has.
A fraction of the site will be excavated through test trenches, the location of which have been informed by a Geophysical Survey carried out at the site in October 2015.
Its’ expected the site works will last for approximately 5 weeks.
