An Bord Pleanala has given the go-ahead for an extension at one of Castlebar’s oldest public houses.
The planning appeals board upheld Mayo County Council’s decision to grant permission for an extension at Johnny McHale’s pub at Newline, Castlebar - despite objections from residents who were concerned it would lead to increased levels of noise pollution.
The proposed redevelopment includes extending the existing ground floor, first floor and toilet areas, construction of a new basement to accommodate a cold room and conversion of residential first-floor to public-house.
An appeal against the decision was lodged by the Rathbawn Drive Residents Association on a number of grounds – including noise pollution and disturbance.
An Bord Pleanala has now given the go-ahead for the proposed redevelopment of the pub, subject to conditions.
