€270,000 to support the work of the Order of Malta Ireland has been announced by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring.

The funding will be provided under his Department’s Scheme to Support National Organisations in the Community and Voluntary Sector.

Last year, 2,500 Order of Malta volunteers worked almost 300,000 hours in the service of the public.

Minister Ring says the organisation provides first aid and emergency medical ambulance services to an extensive array of organisations, it also manages a range of community care services including day care centres, community care, centres for the elderly and supports welfare clinics for the homeless.
