A Mayo man and his wife have died following a road collision in New York.
33-year old John Heneghan, originally from Tourmakeady who was living in New York, was fatally injured after the car he was driving was struck by a vehicle driven by a suspected drunk driver in Clifton Park near Albany on Saturday afternoon.
Mr Heneghan and his wife Caitlyn Holtzman died when a car travelling southbound on State Route 9 switched lanes and crashed into their car.
Three other passengers who were in Mr Heneghan's car - two Irish men and an American woman - were injured in the collision and were taken to Albany Medical Centre for treatment.
Police have confirmed that a 58-year old man was arrested at the scene for "aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated".
He was remanded at Saratoga County Jail without bail and is due back in court on Wednesday.
John Heneghan had returned home to get married in Ballintubber Abbey four years ago.
