Planning permission has been granted by An Bord Pleanala for the construction of a new hotel on the site of the former Healy's Hotel in Pontoon.
Last year, Mayo County Council granted permission, with 22 conditions, to Pontoon Angler's Hotel Ltd to demolish the existing building - part of which was damaged by fire in 2011 - and to construct a new two-storey hotel on the site.
The decision was subsequently appealed to An Bord Pleanala, and the planning appeals board has now given the go-ahead for the new hotel, subject to conditions.
That's according to former Castlebar Councillor Eugene McCormack, who's contesting the local elections for FG in the Castlebar Municipal District.
