An extensive gorse fire that broke out on Achill Island yesterday was eventually brought under control yesterday evening.
Volunteers assisted fire crew in eventually getting the blaze under control.
The fire started on a hill near the village of Dugort yesterday morning and raged throughout the afternoon.
No damage was caused to property and no one was injured.
The local Achill unit of the Fire Service attended the scene and they were joined by crews from Crossmolina and Westport during the day. In addition up to 100 volunteers assisted in the efforts to get the fire under control in strong winds.
It was eventually extinguished yesterday evening.
